Kansas City Parent Magazine (Kansas City, KS) is no stranger to contesting (they put several under their belt each month!). Before utilizing UPICKEM, the popular niche magazine enabled forms on their site to manage their contests. Since signing up for UPICKEM, they are able to customize the contests to their liking and easily capture user data. Not only is their first contest with UPICKEM completely adorable (and a great spin on a typical kids contest), it was very successful with over 250 registered users and nearly 475 votes.

The Tennessean (Nashville, TN) puts a healthy spin on a simple recipe contest – for kids, nonetheless! The grand prize winner receives a $5,000 gift certificate to Fareway Groceries (a perfect prize from the perfect sponsor), plus 30 random entries receive a $100 Fareway gift certificate! With over 2,800 registrants and nearly 13,000 votes (and stellar branding), this contest is a treat.

The reader interaction on this giveaway contest from Boys’ Life Magazine (Irving, TX) is fantastic. Each day, readers search for “Pedro” (see image above) on the Boys’ Life website – he will have a number on his shirt. Next, they enter the number on his shirt to win a brand new KINECT from XBOX360. So simple, so fun.

The “scared of santa” contest is always a big hit around the holiday season and this one from KTLA-TV (Los Angeles, CA) is no exception. The photos this type of contest brings are always fun to browse through (not fun for the kids, obviously). What makes this “scared of santa” stand out, you ask? The $2,500 cash prize and fantastic branding!

Just because of this kids-holiday-coloring contest from Norfolk Daily News (Norfolk, NE), I may skip turkey this year at Thanksgiving. The paper published a plain Gary the Turkey and encouraged kids of all ages to disguise him to save him from the troubles of November (for turkeys, anyway). Between jailbird Gary, Santa Gary and The Hangover Gary, I can’t decide my favorite. Great holiday contest!

What would the October contest of the month be without amazingly cute Halloween contest from Minneapolis Star-Tribune (Minneapolis, MN)?! The Minneapolis Star Tribune always does an outstanding job with UPICKEM and this contest is no exception. For their Children’s Halloween Costume Contest, they partnered with Trail of Terror – a frightful Halloween event with over 15 attractions including a haunted corn maze and “monster” truck rides! The best costume scares up $1,000 and four runners up take home $100. This is a ghoulishy good contest!
