You know how all TV morning shows have a peppy theme song? How cool would it be if that song was performed by one of the station’s best fans? That’s exactly what KWGN-TV (Denver, CO) asked their most loyal (and most musical) viewers to do with “Your Big Break on Daybreak”. Not only does the winner get their song on TV everyday, they receive a gift certificate to Guitar Center and a brand-new iPad2!

HarperCollins, one of the world’s leading English language publishers, has created this one-of-a-kind contest on Bookperk centered around the release of the 10th anniversary of “American Gods” by famed author Neil Gaiman. Here’s how it works: fans enter an MP3 of themselves reading a pre-chosen excerpt from the book. Everyone votes and the top vote-receiving submission is rewarded with a speaking role for the audiobook, plus a coaching session with the author pre-recording. How cool is that?
Other reasons this contest rocks? The contest page looks sharp, the video on the welcome page adds a personal touch, plus the ability to “Like” the Facebook Page from the contest. Also note how heavily HarperCollins is promoting the contest within their site. Fantastic work!

This MP3 contest from WZAK won “Best Creative Contest” in our 2010 Annual UPICKEM Awards and it’s not difficult to see why. In an effort to promote seatbelt wearing, WZAK asked listeners to create an original beat using safety and traffic sounds (seatbelt ding, police car, car door, to name a few). The submissions of this PSA contest were inspired! Love it.

The Colorado Springs Gazette (Colorado Springs, CO) encourages local aspiring country singers to participate in this MP3 contest. Each band submits an MP3 sample, submission with the most votes wins a showcase at the RW Colorado Country Music Expo.

Lazer 1033.3 (Des Moines, IA) encourages local bands to enter this MP3 contest and vie for a spot as the openers at Lazerfest. What a great prize!

Minneapolis Star Tribune (Minneapolis, MN) was on a mission to find the best, new local band. Are You Local? – hosted by Vita.mn (an arts & entertainment guide) – encouraged bands to upload an MP3. The top 3 worthy finalists performed at a local showcase, received a feature in Vita.mn, among other prizes.
