At last, football season has arrived! With that in mind, today I’d like to showcase an excellent football contest from Tribune Chronicle (Warren, OH). The paper is running 3 football contests: a local high school contest, top 15 college games, and the national pro game (run by Second Street). To make it easy for readers to enter, they created a landing page that promotes all three contests and is surrounded by sponsors’ ads. What a genius idea! Great work – we can’t wait to see the results of your contests.
Are you running a football contest that deserves a standing ovation? Let us know in the comments.

The Rhino Times (Greensboro, NC) hit a hole-in-one with their Wyndham Golf Challenge – check out how great their welcome page looks! With their detailed instructions on how to play, what prizes you can win and list of sponsors, this contest is a winner.

WROC-TV (Rochester, NY) is running UPICKEM’s national golf challenge contest. To get viewers tee’d up for the challenge, the station ran this promotional video (check it out on Facebook here!) featuring Scott Hetsko from their weather team and John Kucko from their sports team. Thanks for sharing!
This year, more than ever, we’ve seen many great sharp looking college basketball brackets. Here’s just a peek at a few brands that really hit a slam dunk with their aesthetics:
1. P.C. Richard & Son, an electronic superstore, showcased their bracket on their homepage slider.

2. Famous Dave’s, a popular bar-be-que restaurant, boasts a “Million Dollar Madness” image that links to the contest.

3. Fathead (see Fathead Announces One Million Dollar Bracket Contests) posted both upfront and round-by-round bracket on their site for visitors.

College basketball fans across the country are gearing up for their absolute favorite time of the year – the March playoff tournament. If you are one of these folks, ask yourself, “what could be better than watching the game from my 60-inch tv?” The answer? Attending the tournament! Well, the Big Ten Network gives fans a chance to do just that with this oh, so, clever video contest. To enter, fans submit a video of their best Gus Johnson-esque announcer bit and top 3 attend the tournament and compete for the grand prize. A very engaging, unique idea for a custom sports contest – great work!

Super Bowl Sunday is quickly approaching and Citizen Tribune (Morristown, TN) is doing a fantastic job of engaging their readers with this Super Sunday Giveaway contest. Readers answer Super Bowl related trivia questions and are entered to win one of three perfect football-themed prizes (32″ HD TV, Blu-Ray Player or Pizza Party from Hungry Howie’s). UPICKEM offers a nationally run Super Bowl contest, but this is a great example of a custom-designed contest.
